Integrating a gender-sensitive perspective is one of the most effective ways to promote gender equity at all levels of a health information system (HIS). Gender integration in HIS aims to ensure that all people, regardless of gender, and those marginalized due to gender-related norms can influence, participate in, and benefit from HIS efforts. CHISU understands the importance of disaggregating HIS data by gender or sex during collection, analysis, and use to ensure that health systems foster greater equity rather than perpetuating inequities. Improving Kenya’s malaria response by revising epidemic thresholds

Malaria is a significant public health problem in Kenya, with nearly 4,000 people (most of them children) dying from it every year—and a significant proportion of the population is at risk of getting the disease. CHISU worked with Kenya's National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and the University of Nairobi Health-IT (funded by USAID) to revise the malaria epidemic thresholds used in the District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) application. GDHF is a leading networking and relationship-building opportunity to connect government stakeholders, digital health developers, health systems leaders, researchers, donors, implementers, and field experts in public health and technology from across the globe—and CHISU welcomed the opportunity to exchange lessons learned and engage in thought leadership with other attendees.
